Small-town waitress Alice is just about to get proposed to by her boyfriend Scott when a nail gets accidentally lodged inside her head in a freak accident. Becoming increasingly erratic and unpredictable, Alice hopes that Scott will follow through on his marital intentions, but it’s clear that his passions are cooling, rapidly. Determined to get help, Alice heads off to Washington, D.C. where she instantly falls for a dashing, but clueless Congressman, Howard Birdwell, who reluctantly takes up her cause.
